Hi, Sunny here.

For 11 years, I have helped students build their CVs and get into some of the best universities in the UK and America such as Oxford, Stanford, and Yale. You can sign up here to receive my newsletter on CV-building activities alongside tips and insights on how to succeed in the admissions process. I am also on Twitter and Instagram. And if you want professional help with university admissions, our company website is here.

This week, we have a series of absolutely fascinating events we recommend students attend. These discussions are more specialised than usual and are slightly high-level. At A&J School, we encourage students to put themselves into environments with steep learning curves. Even if they don’t get everything that they have learnt as part of an experience, the fact they pushed themselves further than before is an achievement in itself. With this being said, take a look at the events below.

This month's events.

There’s something in the water…:In this online event hosted by Cambridge University, featuring Professor Charles Kennel. The panel will be focusing on ecological challenges affecting people, animals and plants. The main topic of interest will be regarding water management within Inner Asia. This is one of those rare events that should appeal to students regardless of if they are interested in STEM or social sciences. Understanding policy and the science behind it is a very advanced skill. Use this chance to get ahead of the curve. 15 March.

Data science 101: Data science is one of these degrees that is often slept upon. You need to have a solid understanding of advanced statistics, computer science and project management. It is one of the most lucrative degrees you can do, and it differentiates people from computer scientists. If you think that this is something your child would be interested in, I recommend that they come to this lecture by the editor-in-chief of Harvard Data Science Review. They will be giving a distinguished lecture on wisdom and warnings about the field and research. This is an opportunity to listen to one of the most qualified people on the planet discuss the field. Even if you are only marginally interested, you would be crazy to miss an opportunity like this. 21 March.

Fact and fiction- science and dreams: This is a fantastic event for anyone interested in science, literature, science fiction or creative writing. Hosted by Cambridge Royal Astronomer Martin Rees and Sci-fi Author Una McCormack, discuss how ideas from science influence fiction and how fiction influences science. Talking about the nature of connection between these two types of work is a high level and complex discussion, which is precisely why students should give it a shot. 25 March.

Video Highlights

How to prep for the IB: We know that exams are looking for students, especially those taking the IB course, and A-Level. In this video we provide some students advice on how to approach the exams. This includes reviewing concepts like the revision curve.

International English Exams 101: We are so proud that many of our international students have seen great success with offers to study in places such as the US and UK! However, one thing we noticed is that a lot of these students did not know that several universities have an English language requirement condition- and that they enforce this rigorously. In this video we review the different English language tests that students can take, and evaluate the pros and cons of each. It is a great video for those who want a head start in prepping for future conditional offers.
