LSE, Imperial and KCL Events

Hi, Sunny here.

For 11 years, I have helped students build their CVs and get into some of the best universities in the UK and America such as Oxford, Stanford, and Yale. You can sign up here to receive my newsletter on CV-building activities alongside tips and insights on succeeding in the admissions process. I am also on Twitter and Instagram. And if you want professional help with university admissions, our company website is here.

Things are starting to kick back into gear again as the academic year winds up. Now that we are through the dry period, here are some of the best events that are happening over the course of the next month. All of these events are attached to some of the best universities the UK has to offer, so they provide another solid entry to your child's extracurricular portfolio.

Upcoming Events:

The digital age and social impact by LSE: Whilst AI and social media dominate the conversation about technology, plenty can be implemented now without appealing to the latest software. In this lecture, distinguished professor Susan Ashley discusses how we can use digital interventions to improve the world, focusing on everything from child literacy to digital assistants. If you are interested in Economics, Policy, Politics or even Computer Science, this lecture is a must. 04 September.

A World Without Poverty by King's College London: We often take poverty as a natural part of the world. In this lecture, a panel of some of the best thinkers who want to eradicate poverty will meet to discuss what the world would look like if we eliminated it. With distinct areas of expertise, this is an excellent lecture for anyone who wishes to study any form of social science. 10 September.

Air Pollution and the Vulnerable by Imperial College: If your child is interested in Science, or Medicine, this is the event for them. Focusing on low- and middle-income countries, Professor Kalpana Balakrishnan will discuss some of the negative effects of air pollution on the most vulnerable. This lecture is notable because it is the International Distinguished Lecture- a type reserved for some of the most prolific and impactful academics in the world. As such, it would be a huge miss for your child to not attend. 12 September.

Video Highlights

Does your child like music? If so, show them this. Music A-Level can be quite an intensive course, and because it is relatively niche, parents and students tend to have little information. In this video, I talk to a student who completed A-Level Music. We discuss some of the trials and tribulations of the course, as well as some of the strong suits of the course.

What is Philosophy about? Like A-level Music, many people think that Philosophy is a degree you undertake if you don't know what to do with life. Some people think the subject is equivalent to taking Religious Studies at a university. This is untrue. In this video, we dispel some of the myths of Philosophy and run through some of the skills it could provide your child.

Time Management and the IB: As we enter the new academic year, many students will start the IB this year. While this course is versatile and will provide students with an excellent foundation for university applications, the course is deeply demanding and requires students to balance time across 6 different subjects alongside additional projects and essays. I ran through some best practices in this video alongside an IB student who did well.
